Thunder 94

Thunder 94 (WRLG) was a great modern rock station in Nashville, TN. Beginning first as a night-time split from sister station Lightning 100 (WRLT), the station eventually became a 24/7 modern rocker. In the mid 1990s, it provided Nashville with music that truly fit the definition of "alternative", from "Alcohol" by Maggie May to "Down To This" by Soul Coughing.

In the October 1997, facing intense pressure from 103 KDF (which had flipped to mainstream modern rock some time before), Tuned In Broadcasting pulled the plug on Thunder 94. It became WYYB The Phoenix (a mix of folk and AAA programming), ushering in an end of an era in Nashville radio.
