Blaylock/Burgess Family Tree
I have the great fortune of being able to trace my family tree through two different sources on my Mom's side of the family. Here's how it plays out (going backward). I have it splitting back via my great-great-grandfather's side (George Edward Blaylock) and my great-great-grandmother's side (Nancy Zenia Burgess).
BLAYLOCK SIDE
1. Charles Louis Pickney, III (me)
2. Marian Elaine Pickney (Blaylock maiden name -- my mom, born July 8, 1951 in Harriman, TN)
3. Evert Loyd Blaylock (my grandfather, born February 27, 1921 in Harriman, TN; died August 27, 2006 in Brentwood, TN)
4. John Anderson Blaylock (born Oct. 3, 1891 in Cumberland County, TN; died Dec. 27, 1966 in Harriman, TN; my great-grandfather)
5. George Edward Blaylock (born Feb. 18, 1869 in Thomas Springs, TN; died Nov. 19, 1957 in Harriman, TN; my great-great-grandfather)
6. Anderson Ellison Blaylock (born Sep. 17, 1817 in Lincoln County, TN; died April 1, 1896 in Cumberland County, TN)
7. Hubbard Blaylock (born 1784 in Virginia; died Dec. 12, 1863 in Cumberland County, TN)
8. William Blaylock (born 1742 in Brunswick, VA; died 1822 in Orange County, NC)
9. John William Blaylock (born 1710 in New Kent County, VA; died 1791 in Newberry County, SC)
10. John William Blaylock (born 1671 in Accomac, VA; died 1745 in Louisa, VA)
11. Thomas Blaylock, Jr. (born 1628 in Accomac, VA; died 1677 in Accomac, VA)
12. Thomas Blaylock (born 1581 in Cumberland County, England; died 1660 in Accomac, VA)
13. Thomas Blaylock (born 1557 in Yorkshire, Cumberland, England; died 1582 in Carlisle, Cumberland, England)
Interesting notes: Thomas Blaylock (1557) died just one yet after the birth of his son, also named Thomas. Thomas Blaylock (1581) made it to the United States by 1627 when he married his wife Rachel (Thomas Jr. was born in 1628 in Virginia.)
While Thomas Blaylock, Jr. was born in the New World, he traveled back to England at some point, evidenced by the fact that he married Anne Christian Scott in Cumberland, England in 1668. Anne Scott was born in approximately 1630, so she was 38 (estimated) and he was 40 when they married. Beyond that, details of their lives are a mystery, except that they had a son (John William Blaylock, born in 1671) and that Thomas Jr. died in the city of his birth, Accomac, in 1677. The context clues indicate that Thomas brought her Anne back to America relatively soon following their wedding, but the backstory behind it appears to be lost to history.
