Lou's Favorite Links
There are millions and millions of places you could visit on any given day on the internet. Here are some of my favorites that I think you might enjoy checking out, broken down by sections. Sports gets its own section, separate from this page.
Information
The Drudge Report
One of the best on-line news sources, Matt Drudge's "Drudge Report" has plenty of original material and links to news you likely won't hear about anywhere else. If a story makes Drudge, it usually will gain life on the cable news circuit.
Google News
Type in any name, topic or location under the sun, and Google will come up with as many stories as possible for you that might be of interest. Kind of like your own personal news wire. Did I mention before how much I love the internet?
IMDb
The Internet Movie Database contains an incredible amount of information about movies and TV shows.
Harvard Crimson article
Very intelligent write-up about how MADD is actually a neo-prohibitionist, "Progressive Puritanical" group.
Humor
Dirty Turbin Prank Call
This is one of the funniest prank calls you'll ever hear, performed by Sal Governale and Richard Christie of the Howard Stern show. This prank call is all over the internet, but this one is the rare uncensored version.
419eater.com
Revenge against those spammers that attempt to extort money from less than savvy people via the internet is amusing to me.
Games
Where's George?
A really fun and addictive website where you can track your money and find out where it goes next. It's not so much a game as it is a fun, free hobby.
Yahoo! Games
Not to whore myself out to Yahoo!, but they do have some fun, free games. I love Literati -- think Scrabble with slightly different rules. And a free tip: if you get the letter "Q" with no "U" or blank tile, dump it. Just trust me on this one...
Press Your Luck Game
If you like the classic 1980's game show Press Your Luck (you know, "No Whammies"), you'll love playing the free Press Your Luck game for your computer (Win95 or higher required). It's a well made and definitely fun game, and I've seen it many times have the same intensity that the real-life version brings out in contestants. It's better made than many other "officially licensed" video game incarnations I've seen through the years.
The Movie Game
For a fun challenge, try the movie game. See if you can find an actor or actress who doesn't fall into the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon (no fair cheating on IMDb.com).
Great Reading
Bill Simmons
The brilliant Bill Simmons writes about sports, culture and entertainment in a way no one else can match. His columns are a must-read if you even remotely like sports and/or pop culture.
The Best Page In The Universe
The one-word-named, sarcastic Maddox has a page that proves that you can have a site that looks like it was designed in 1996 and make it infinitely more successful than a sharp, fancy looking webpage... if you have the content to back it up.
The Smoking Gun
There are few sites better at uncovering legit dirt on celebrities, from mug shots to court documents, than The Smoking Gun. For a real laugh, check out the grinning mug shot on TSG of pro wrestler Booker T...
Friends & Family's Pages
Matt Pickney's page
For now, just it just forwards to his MySpace page.
Mary Beth Pickney's page
She decided to make her page private, so no soup for you. Too bad, as she's a very good writer. There's a reason she's going to Birmingham Southern for free.
BrianStockwell.com
Brian was in my high school graduating class; he's a skilled artist and an inspired advertising designer.
Ryan Priest
Ryan Priest and I worked together in Evansville, and by chance we both ended up moving to the Tampa Bay area (and both are now out of the TV news biz.) Ryan's online journal is interesting and worth reading.
Northside
My friend from college Dennis Goodman keeps close tabs on the Chicago Cubs (and occasionally some other topics) on this site.
Jamie Anderson
Jamie escaped from the wrath of the Executive Meddler at WTSP to the mountains of Maine. I imagine he felt like Andrew Dufresne at the end of The Shawshank Redemption when he made it up to his new home. His homepage is filled with pictures and stories of some of his outdoor travel adventures.
