Not Responsible

Tuesday
September 27, 2005

There are some massive dump trucks that I've seen around here in Tampa that proudly proclaim on the back "Stay back 20 ft. - not responsible for broken windshields". Now, I'm far from a legal expert, but a sticker like that is hardly grounds for immunity from civil prosecution (or potentially even criminal) if, say, a large piece of debris were to fly loose and strike a driver behind the truck. What if I want people to give me plenty of room behind Lou Jr. (my Honda Accord, as seen on this page), can I put a sticker like that on my car? Ridiculous, I say. When trucks has stickers that say "Wide right turns", I appreciate that kind of information. But one that's downright threatening? I take umbrage to that.

I'm not sure if this is a regional thing or what, but the Subway attached to the Citgo on Westshore near I-275 in Tampa will stop accepting the Sub Club stamps, effective at the end of the month. So today I used two cards to get a 12" Subway Club; one for lunch today, and one for lunch tomorrow. Plus that way I only had to pay for one drink, whereas if I had gone in for 6" sandwiches individually, I would've been on the hook for two drinks. I have a card with six stamps on it, and I need to scour my apartment (and wallet) to see if I can find a stray two extra stamps to fill out the card.
