Ring Tones

Friday
September 24, 2004

The evolution of cell phones has meant the advancement and development of "ring tones", i.e. various rings for cell phones that help to differentiate one ring from another. With the rather limited choices that come with many phones, that is an understandable feature to have.

I mention this because here at work it's been a topic of conversation the past few days. My cell phone has the theme from Knight Rider as the main tone. Why? Because I like it, and because I doubt that anyone else out there will have it on their phone. I have a special ring for Bubba The Love Sponge (so if I'm in the other room or something I know I need to go answer it) and a plain, shrill ring to signify my stalker neighbor upstairs. When that particular ring goes off, it's usually a test of quickness to see how fast I can hit the "silence" button on the side of my phone to bring the ringing to a stop.

Tonight I spent several hours in Pinellas County putting up Bubba For Sheriff signs. Unlike Wednesday, I made sure to wait until after 5 PM and thus avoided the blistering heat (which drains you, puts you in the way of daytime traffic, and also leaves people like me susceptible to sunburns).

If you've read much of what I've written on here in recent months, you know that I enjoy reality TV. In particular I like The Apprentice, but the last two weeks of the show have left me scratching my head, as neither elimination had anything to do with the performance in the task performed. It seems to lessen the importance of the competitions when people are eliminated for reasons unrelated to their performance in a given task.
