Thanksgiving
Thursday
November 27, 2008
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. It's been a great one for me, with a wonderful meal at my parents' house and a fun time with them and my 91-year-old grandmother (who makes the best peanut butter pie around) and Matt and Mary Beth.
The Titans moved to 11-1 today with a victory over the hapless, winless 0-12 Lions. It wasn't even close. Matt and I had aimed for an 11:30 a.m. CT arrival at the house, but we were a little late getting out of here, and before we even made it there the score was 7-0 Titans. Mike Keith and Frank Wycheck (the Titans radio announcing team) sounded like they were doing the game via an ISDN from Mike's house watching it on television. I know they were actually there, but it certainly didn't sound like it. Maybe that's a product of the layout at Ford Field, but I heard more noise at Tropicana Field from the 2002 Tampa Ray Devil Rays, which I assure you is no compliment.
There is a distinct possibility that the Lions will end up 0-16. There isn't an "easy game" left on its schedule. Never say never (the 2007 Dolphins dodged the 0-16 bullet after an 0-13 start), but it doesn't look good for Detroit. On the upside, the team is very likely to get the first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, and with a new GM rebuilding can begin quickly.
A quick update on things here for me: I have signed with Aflac insurance as an independent associate. I passed the state insurance exam on the first try (all four parts), and now I'm just pending a background check with the TBI and FBI to receive my license as an "Insurance Producer" (as it is officially called). My opportunities with this situation should be wonderful.
One final note -- if this website was a radio station, it would be stunting with all Counting Crows in anticipation of a format change. After floundering for some time with general observations and rather vanilla writings, my website is flipping back to hot talk soon. Stay tuned. The passionate writer inside of me just wouldn't let this thing fizzle out into obscurity.
