"Five miles out of town she turns to me says
Is it too late to turn around
'cause I think I forgot my things, and I think we forgot our heads
And we can't get too far with out that, oh no no no"
-Sublime "Great Escape"
An interesting battle brews for tonight in the world of fantasy football. I'm up 8 with Jerry Rice, but Josh has Rich Gannon. Which means I'm probably screwed, short of an injury and/or some real Monday night magic.
I added a link to my first exclusive column for Carligula.com. The site itself is basically a place for some of my old college friends to talk and interact and what not (it's named in honor of my former roommate Carl Weitlauf), with some new people from the Nashville scene (not the newspaper) thrown in for good measure. I like writing for it because it forces me to actually focus and write a coherent article about a single topic. Whereas on here, I jump from topic to topic quite often. As with my life, there's a wide variety of areas involved that deserve to be covered.
Still looking into the possibility of going home for Thanksgiving. Tickets are a little more expensive than I'd hoped... but we'll see how that plays out.
Last weekend was fun. Pauline and I saw The Ring, which was a pretty good scary movie. I managed to misread the Trib and thought incorrectly that Punch-Drunk Love was playing at Centro Ybor. It's as if I'm jinxed to not see that film. But it was a good time. Barley Hoppers may be my new favorite place in Tampa, if for no other reason than it has the impossible-to-find Woodchuck Cider on tap. Good times.
This weekend will be interesting. Going to see Jerry Seinfeld do stand-up on Saturday night with Scott and Carrie. Meanwhile, my friends Adam and Amanda from Orlando are also coming to town, so we'll try to coordinate all that. And Friday is the apartment complex party. So trying to juggle all that and possibly other plans will be interesting.
Our newest reporter at WTSP, Virginia Johnson, started this morning. She's great. We had her play up her Louisiana accent for fun since it was her first day and all. Very fun. Plus she worked with Brent Frazier once upon a time in Lafayette, IN, so we had a common reference point when we first met (Brent now works at WKRN in Nashville -- it's a small world in the TV news business).
That's all for now, I need to look for some circus music (yes, I'm serious). Here's hoping Rice runs for two rushing TD's or something improbable like that tonight.
