Maintain

Friday
May 6, 2005

Right after 8 AM yesterday, maintenance knocked on my door. They had received a worried call from the plumber about the geophone that he left behind the day before. Ha ha ha.

So now they've sprayed bleach inside the dry wall to kill any mold that might've started growing. Lovely thought, isn't it?

Seriously though, how am I supposed to make a major financial decision when the place is under repair? I have a deadline approaching to let the Paragon people know if I want to buy the place... I might need to put in for an extension or something.

I can't say enough good things about MVP Baseball 2005. Now that I've finally figured out how to hit home runs, and I'm not constantly getting picked off base by bad baserunning decisions, the Florida Marlins (who I'm running in owner mode) are doing allllright. Nine games up in the NL East with time to go before the All-Star break. Torii Hunter has been disappointing offensively (I traded for him early on), but in centerfield he's been strong. My leadoff spot was thrown off big-time when Juan Pierre suffered a torn knee meniscus that cost him the season, but I worked a deal to land Tony Womack, who is now leading off instead (along with Ray Durham, another player I traded for). The one thing I didn't fiddle with are the young starting pitchers, and A.J. Burnett, Dontrell Willis and Jason Beckett are a triple threat. But interestingly, my best pitcher has been the #4 guy, Ismael Valdez. 7-1 with a sub 2.00 ERA... not too shabby. And his one loss was a screwjob 1-0 loss where he was pulled after giving up a base hit and the reliever allowed that runner to score. I traded Al Leiter early on, so my #5 pitcher spot was really shaky, so I acquired Tanyon Sturtze from the Yankees. He's not perfect, but in his last outing he allowed just one hit through seven innings. Sometimes you never can tell.
