Get Baldy

I've been slacking on the commentaries the past few days. But, it's with good reason. I've been working hard not only in setting up new affiliates for the Bubba the Love Sponge show, but also in preparing the launch for my new music distribution company. I'm calling it Picklock Music. For less than $1,500, a band can provide me with a CD-R of their music and I can turn it into an eye-catching promotional release and send it to 50 carefully selected independent/college stations. For just $500 more, the number goes up to 100 stations. It's a plan I've been working on for more than two years, and soon it will become a reality. I'm in the testing stages right now, but we hope to be up and going soon. I'll keep you posted. And if you know of any bands that are starting out and looking for some nice exposure, tell them to check out Picklock Music.

Apparently I'm not the only person who finds Carrot Top utterly annoying and unfunny...

I think my favorite part of the piece is this: He does not dispense punch lines; he is a punch line. Well said.

The NBA Playoffs have been fun to watch, in what limited free time I've had. Kings vs. Mavericks never gets old. Ever! Though tonight Chris Webber got hurt, which is definitely not good.

Meanwhile, my favorite team, the San Antonio Spurs, are up 2-0 on the Los Angeles Lakers. I say: big deal. I'm not talking one iota of smack until a fourth win is posted in the Spurs' column in this series.

Jeff Berardelli's going away party is on Saturday. It will be the chance for me to see many people from Channel 10 who I haven't seen since my time at the station came to an end in February. Jeff is a good guy, and I predict that he'll do some great things for WCBS in New York.

Incidentally, Jeff is the second meteorologist friend of mine to make a mega market leap in the past few weeks, with former WSAZ meteorologist Scott Sabol now at Fox 8 (WJW) in Cleveland. I enjoy seeing quality people advance in the business.

With Bubba, my months of work is close to paying off (knock on wood). We have a number of stations that are either in serious consideration to sign with us or in the final stages of signing. My hope is that as the Spring 2003 book draws closer and closer to a close, underperforming stations nationwide that are looking for male listeners in the morning will begin giving Bubba serious consideration. Plus if we do close on some of these deals, then hopefully we'll benefit from the bandwagon effect. Our goal was to double our affiliate total (from 5 to 10) by the end of 2003, but if things work out we might reach that goal sooner (perhaps by before the start of the Fall 2003 book in October). Can't get into specifics here on the markets or the stations at this time, but rest assured that as soon as I can, I will. I'm very enthusiastic about our chances. Bubba has the best morning show in the country (in my opinion), and the sky's the limit for what we'll be able to do with it.

Tomorrow night I'm driving to Orlando to go to the Major League Wrestling TV taping taking place there. Considering how stale WWE programming is these days, it will be refreshing to see something different. Plus the show starts early enough where my friend Gary and I can then go hit the Orlando club scene that night.

Time to get some sleep now... In the meantime, here's a wish that the DOT would install a stop light at the eastbound off-ramp from the Crosstown Expressway at the Ybor City exit. It's like Russian Roulette trying to make a left turn through there every day...
