As I mentioned yesterday, I feel stuck in the middle with things right about now at work. An e-mail from Wichita implied that I'm either a liar or a patsy. Always a fun way to get into the afternoon stretch run on a Wednesday.
Tomorrow I'm flying back to Nashville to go to my sister Mary Beth's 8th grade graduation. She's an excellent student, much better at math and what not than I ever was (she takes after our mom more in that regard), and I think she'll do phenomenally well at Father Ryan beginning this fall. It's still kind of crazy to think that she'll be starting high school, but time moves on rather quickly sometimes. The brand new FRHS that I attended in the fall of 1991 is now a 12-year old facility. But it's still a very nice place, to be sure.
Nashville is such a fun city... There's the whole nostalga factor that invariably comes up, between running into people from years gone by and the memories of even places. Like driving by Estes Park toward West Nashville. Or drinking coffee on the porch at Bongo Java.
I need to get on the horn on e-mail and let my crew in the 'Ville know of my impending arrival. Even with a four-day weekend, it can be tough to fit in seeing everyone and meeting up with friends and what not.
Seeing the Spurs blow last night's game with the Mavericks was hard. There's no reason that San Antonio shouldn't have been able to slam the door on Dallas. The Spurs had a double-digit lead, playing at home, with Dirk Nowitski out for a second straight game with a knee injury. But the Mavs played small-ball to get back in it, the Spurs couldn't adjust (passing on open three pointers to force the ball in to a triple-teamed Tim Duncan). Hopefully the Spurs can close things out in Game 6 in Big D.
What's the deal with the NBA setting June 4 as the firm start date for the NBA Finals? With the Spurs losing last night it works out okay, but had the Western Conference Finals ended in 5 games it would've left a several day delay for the start of the NBA Finals. As it is, the Nets could be rusty and out of synch by the time the Finals begin. At least I hope that happens.
Speaking of Jersey teams, how about the Devils crunching Anaheim 3-0 last night? New Jersey is tough (not to be confused with tuff). Gigaire vs. Brodeur is still a compelling matchup, and I'd suggest that the Ducks will take a more cautious approach to their offense in Game 2.
