I have the song "Why You'd Want To Live Here" by Death Cab For Cutie stuck in my head. Good song. It's about Los Angeles, and I've never been to Los Angeles, but I've never been to Casablanca either and I think that the movie with the same name is the greatest film of all time. Sometimes you can appreciate a place or a situation through the expression of another, even if you've never been there yourself.
Just finished a workout at the gym. The Simpsons one hour season finale was on. During my workout this girl came in and was all excited about the fact that I had The Simpsons on. So she got on the Precor machine next to me and started chatting. She looked young -- probably too young, I thought to myself. Funny moment, on the Precor machines there's a part when you can put in your age, and she was hitting the down button: 22, 21, 20, 19, 18... 17. All the situation needed was a Price Is Right-esque losing music riff. It's like in that mountain climber game where the climber guy goes too far and falls off the edge of the mountain.
Coming back from the gym tonight was a little creepy. The wind was whipping around like crazy. Nightfall was almost totally in place, but there was enough light to create some interesting visuals, including the way the light moved when the palm trees swayed in the breeze. These are the sorts of things you don't get in Nashville or Huntington or Evansville or most of the rest of the eastern United States.
I was advised to never miss a party or a social function, but that advise came 12 hours too late. From what I hear, I missed a wild time at the Temptation Island party. The girl who tried to get me to go sent this to me tonight in an e-mail that also went to several other people:
hey! I am really hammered right now, so if this comes out wrong I am sorry but for all of you who did not show up today at the island party..; OH MY GOD!!! You missed a Hell of a great f***in party!!! Voyeur girls were there NAKED !!! The Ybor strip girls were there top less!!!!!!!!!! it was so AWESOME! Those of you that know me know I got mine!!! Two girls!! Nice, any way, next time I won’t invite you all since most of you didn’t show... thanks Shawn for a GREAT time will wait till the next one!
Somehow I think that would've been better to be there than here in my apartment playing NCAA Football on the PS2. Live and learn. And to think, I was in a good mood when I came back from the gym. Now I'm pissed that I didn't make the drive out to Clearwater.
Last night was fun in its own right, though. Cider and basketball and then down to Market on 7th. Unfortunately I didn't get the low cost hookup, since Mandy was actually on the other side of the bar and not working for once on a Saturday night. $16 for a round of shots, which was the surprisingly tasty "chocolate cake" shot (but not $4 a shot tasty.) Felt just below the "we have an ATM machine here" level of being snookered when put in tandem with "should I put this on your tab?" But whatever, all in a good night.
I talked with Velvet tonight, poor girl is still recovering from the surgery she had on Thursday. Hospitals are no fun.
Well it's 10:58 and Tali said she'd call me when The Bachelor ended on ABC, so time to wrap this up...
