I learned earlier this afternoon about the death of former WWF and WCW manager Miss Elizabeth (real name: Elizabeth Hulette). From reports that I've heard, initial indications that she might have died of some sort of overdose. Sadly, this is the latest in a long line of fatalities involving people in the pro wrestling business.

Fans of the late 80's WWF will remember Miss Elizabeth as the manager of "Macho Man" Randy Savage (and later the "Megapowers" tag team of Savage and Hulk Hogan). Elizabeth was the real-life wife of Savage, and after they split up in the late 1990s she ended up being romantically linked with Lex Luger (who police questioned today following Elizabeth's untimely passing).

The Tampa Bay Lightning lost last night to the New Jersey Devils. The Lightning now trail the series 3-1, and they must win in New Jersey in Game 5 in order to force a Game 6 back here in Tampa on Sunday. The Devils' success has the two Devils fans I know (Marissa here at 98 Rock and my friend Tali in Cleveland) spouting off about them. I'll be cheering for Ottawa to beat Philly and then knock off Jersey if the Devils end up making it to the conference finals. Actually, I could go for a Vancouver Canucks vs. Ottawa Senators matchup in the Stanley Cup finals, if nothing else to see ABC go into a panic.

My friend Scott Massey pointed out to me yesterday that I haven't mentioned the Iraq war very much on here. Maybe it's because I'm still somewhat reluctant to turn this into a political forum (I did my best in my TV producing days to stay neutral in my comments on here when it came to news-type things). But I'll say this: the removal of Saddam Hussein from power means that the people of Iraq are now free from a tyrrany of murder, torture and unbridled terror.

Now I'm not so naïve as to think that the U.S. did this on purely for humantiarian reasons. Obviously the economic ramifications will be huge (particularly when it comes to oil). But I'd say those motivations are no less tainted than those of countries like France, which are alleged to have had multi-billion dollar deals in place with Iraq. As usual, when it comes to these sorts of things, you have to follow the money when it comes to tracing where certain alliances and loyalties stem from.

Speaking of dictatorships, Brent Hatley was telling me today at work about an excellent documentary that the History Channel aired last night on Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge and the massacres that occured in Cambodia in the late 1970's. Time Magazine has an online section about what happened, and the information is astounding.

"Pol Pot declared 'Year Zero' and began a radical program to create an idealized agrarian communist society. He crushed social institutions such as banking and religion and emptied cities of their inhabitants."

Between 1975 and 1979, the Khmer Rouge is estimated to have killed between 1.5-2 million people in Cambodia. That's more than 20% of the country's ENTIRE POPULATION. Think about that for a second. More than one out of every five citizens killed in a 3 1/2 year span...

What's your take on the SARS virus? It seems awfully suspicious to me that a deadly virus would suddenly just pop up. With all the labs and bio-experiments that go on, am I the only one who wonders if there's validity to the question of this being a manmade virus? Not to sound like a consipracy theorist or anything, but it just seems strange to me that more isn't being made of this. The argument that it "jumped" from animals to humans seems a little shaky (of course I think the same thing about HIV, which also is alleged to have jumped in that manner).

I'm not sure what plans await for the weekend. At this point there's nothing in particular lined up, which may or may not be a good thing. Hopefully I'll have a chance to get things going with my internet business plans. And maybe go out for a drink or two at Market on 7th. Haven't had a chance to hang with Riley & Todd over there in awhile.

My friend Gary is in town from Orlando today looking for a job here; I'm hoping to meet up with him for dinner. I'm waiting right now for Bubba's agent Tom Bean to call me back (we had been scheduled to meet earlier this afternoon).

The results are in, and my FFL players escaped being taken in the free agent pickup. The Whiplash stole QB Tom Brady from the Punishers (who had too much young talent to protect everyone) and then the Pigs took RB Charlie Garner from the Mafia. It's the little things like this that keep things fun in the off-season and make the keeper league truly worthwhile.

Plus, now we can trade draft picks. I feel the GM in me acting up and wanting to do some wheeling and dealing. Hmmmm......
