Glenn Brown responded to my
San Francisco column with this:
Enjoyed the weblog - two items to note
1) it's "polk gulch," i.e. "the gulch that is polk street." doesn't make sense to me since a gulch is usually more gulch-like. But not "polk/gulch" as in "polk and gulch or the intersection thereof."
2) Critical mass is not a SF thing. It's done regularly, at least monthly, in 200+ cities. Including tampa, which has terrible record for enforcing the
state and federal laws proteting everyone not in a car. Part of the point is just that: you didn't notice that several thousand cyclists did a major event in January "blocking" traffic in tampa? Hmm - maybe that means that more cycles help traffic rather than hinder it.
Interesting about Polk Gulch. As for the bicyclists in Tampa, the idiots on bikes over by where I live that swerve in and out of traffic without regard for their surroundings leave me with a strong deal of disdain for cyclists in this area. Maybe it's not fair, but in a collision I'll be held liable, even if it's the fault of one of the DUI squad bikers swerving into traffic (i.e. someone who lost their license to drive and thus must use a bike). But so it goes.
Thanks to Scott Keene from work for this link... This may be one of the funniest headlines I've ever seen:
Misys gives Pecker head job.
The sub-header is almost as good: Rudi Pecker assumes position in top slot in Asia. You have to love the little differences in language from country to country...
