RSS/XML

Monday
June 19, 2006

It is done. It took a few months, but I finally figured out how to put RSS/XML feeds up for the website. It's amazingly simple, and I'm embarrassed that it took so long for me to get it installed.

My misperception was that it required a major software installation for it to work and/or that I needed WordPress to put it into effect. Wrong. The Wikipedia entry for RSS had a link to this page in France, which explained it all very simply and easily.

Now I'm sure that there are programs that will handle that side of things for you, but the technical side of things can go over my head at times, particularly when it comes to servers.

What does this mean for the site? Well, all you have to do is click on the "My Yahoo!" or "Add to Google" button on the side and, if you wish, you can add this into your Google main page or into the Google reader, where you can put your favorite pages with RSS/XML and find out whenever they've been updated.

The main reason I learned RSS/XML is because of my radio websites, as Lance from RadioInsight.com wanted to start incorporating my radio-related webpages into his site via RSS/XML. Had it not been for his persistence, I might have been inclined to give up on it, so I appreciate his determination on that.

If you missed last night's Mavericks/Heat game, you missed one of the all time classic basketball games. Clutch shot after clutch shot, a memorable finish in OT, and even an uncharacteristic sarcastic outburst from Avery Johnson in the press conference. Between that, the World Cup, and Phil Mickelson's double bogey to lose the U.S. Open on the 18th hole yesterday, it was a wild day of sports. Good times, for sure.
