Saturday Night Special

Just watched the end of tonight's Devil Rays/A's game on WMOR. Tampa Bay lost 8-3 -- Greg Vaughn struck out looking with two on to end it. Oh, those Devil Rays...
They were scheduled to have a Toby Hall bobble head doll giveaway tomorrow, but they had to postpone it. Why? Because Hall was recent demoted to Tampa Bay's AAA ballclub. Ouch.
The new song "By The Way" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is excellent. Heard it last night for the first time -- it lives up to the RHCP name.
Ended up chilling out here last night in lieu of going out. I figure I'll have enough chances to do that in Cali. Plus there's always tonight.
Well it turns out that last night's Avalanche/Red Wings Game 7 was anything but a classic. Detroit won it in a 7-0 laugher. Now we'll see Hasek vs. Irbe in the finals, which should be interesting. You have the Detroit Red Wings, one of the original six, and one of the most successful NHL teams of the past 10 years... and the Carolina Hurricanes. How many people even know that the NHL has a team in Carolina? Or know where they play (Raleigh, NC). Somewhere, heartbroken Hartford Whalers fans are crying...
From time to time I catch the old ABC show Wasteland in reruns on Showtime. That's one of several great shows to be killed off before its time by ABC in recent years (along with Once And Again, Sports Night, and the all-time classic My So-Called Life). The show had superb dialogue and smart writing. And a hot chick in a leading role helped, too. But TV is a ratings game, and it didn't fly off the charts... so away it went. Too bad.
Right now I have on the movie Heat on Cinemax. I've written about Heat before, but it's hard to go wrong with that movie on in the background.
Well time to get cleaned up and ready for an Ybor Saturday night now...
