Tricky

Thursday
July 8, 2004

I picked up the PS2 game SSX Tricky on the cheap ($12) at EB Games on Tuesday night, and I have to say it was a most worthwhile purchase. I own the original SSX as well, but SSX Tricky takes it to a whole new level. The game earned an almost unheard-of 9.4 ranking from gamespot.com, and rightfully so. Considering how cheap you can get the game for now, you really should buy it if that sort of thing interests you at all.

By chance on Monday night I caught the show Joe Schmo 2... and I was instantly hooked. It's a riot. It's a parody of a reality dating show, more or less, with professional actors and two "marks" -- i.e. people who think it's real. The host is the best part, with this really funny actor who dons fake teeth and puts on a phony British accent (since he was the "host" of the British version of the show in the storyline). There are so many little touches that are outstanding, like when the host deadpanned that the lie detector guy was licensed to issue tests in "38 states and Guam" and when they have the pearl necklace ceremony (mocking the rose ceremony from The Bachelor). What's great is that the girl figured out it was a work, so they brought her over to the "dark side" and now have another girl that they've brought in to try and con. It airs on Spike TV several times a week, and it's well worth checking out.

Tampa is becoming a Hot Talk paradise, as the new 1010thebuzz.com (WBZZ), which is getting Howard Stern on 7/19, has picked up Don & Mike, Ron & Fez, Tom Leykis (albeit on tape delay for just two hours) and John & Jeff. While Scott Massey is not happy about losing his ESPN Radio outlet (which is rumored to be moving to the weak-signaled 1470 WLVU), I'll finally get to hear these shows that I like on a regular basis.

Today is my parents' birthday, so happy birthday to them both. You read that right -- my Mom and Dad share the same birthday. What are the odds of that? (It's 1 in 365 in non-leap years, actually). Though to be clear, they were born four years apart, but it's still an interesting thing to note.
