It's been an interesting last few days, particularly in regards to the Bubba For Sheriff campaign. Some thoughts on the election business:

-It's amazing to me how many people didn't "get it" when it came to us holding the Bubba For Pinellas County Sheriff press conference in Tampa. The idea is that it was a surprise announcement, but with people knowing about it (i.e. people at the printers, those here at the office who knew, etc.), I thought there was a chance that the word might leak out ahead of time. So to counter that chance, I booked the announcement in Tampa (so as to throw off any possible rumors). Had I realized the collective inability of the media to pick up on that subtle approach, I would've said forget it and booked the announcement in Clearwater or St. Petersburg. But so it goes.

-Some people have asked me if Bubba is serious about this campaign. Let me assure you -- he is VERY serious about it. Luckily, we have time on our side. The election isn't until November 2, and while Bubba is running unopposed on the Democratic side, the two Republicans on the ballot have to face off in the August primaries. It will be Bubba against the winner of that election, head-to-head, in November. Just two names on the list...

-There's already been an outpouring of support from people in Pinellas County wanting to help and support the campaign. For those who think Bubba's campaign is a joke or a stunt... they are sorely mistaken.

If I had more free time and cash to throw away, I'd sign up for the Big Brother 5 online camera deal where you can watch the house 24/7. I remember when the show first started in 2000 and you could watch online for free. What they show on TV is often times nowhere near as compelling as what else they could be showing. But so it goes under the world of producers and consultants and time constraints and network censors.

It's been great having Howard Stern on here in Tampa on WBZZ. The show started here yesterday, and I've liked what I've heard so far. I've seen Stern's show on E! plenty of times, but it's been interesting to hear him interact with callers and what not (the sort of stuff that typically doesn't make TV). If we can't have Bubba on here, then having Stern is the next best thing (in my opinion Bubba and Stern were the two best radio shows in the country coming into 2004, and with Bubba on hiatus that leaves Stern on top for now). And with Stern here now, I wonder if Lex & Terry will fall below 20th place Adults 25-54 in the next ratings book...

In my Fantasy Football League, I pulled the equivalent of a quick sell in stocks. I traded my second round pick (#15) to the Punishers in exchange for QB Brett Favre. Two days later, I then swapped Favre to the Stallions for their second round pick (#9). So, in other words I moved up six spots for free. Not too shabby, eh? Our draft is on Thursday night, which should be fun. I'm already boosted by the news that the Titans are (FINALLY) going to be releasing Eddie George (who hasn't had a 4.0 yards per carry average since 1999), which means that Chris Brown (who is on my roster) has a very good chance of being Tennessee's starting RB come week one. That gives me some nice flexibility as far as choices on things to do with the draft.

It's been raining like crazy here in Tampa the past few days. Granted, it is rainy season, but still this is ridiculous. There was an overflow of water in the drive-thru area at the Burger King on Kennedy Blvd. today, for example. But, it proved worth it, as their chicken caesar salad was delicious (I'd never tried it there before, but I was very very happily surprised). Then again, if I'm spending $4.50 for a salad from a fast food restaurant, I'd better be pleased...
