Falcon Twist

Monday
July 12, 2004

I'm giving very serious consideration to starting a fantasy football info website. I've thought about this for some time; the upside is that it's a field that I follow VERY closely and have a strong interest in. The downside is that it could potentially tip my hand to the competition in my FFL keeper league as to whom I like or don't like going into the draft. Though, the nice thing about it being a keeper league is that in putting together comprehensive cheat sheet type lists for people in one year leagues, it shouldn't impact my keeper league all too much (Roy Williams isn't going to have as much value in a 2004 only league versus a keeper, whereas Rod Smith would be worth more potentially in a one and done situation versus one where you might have the player for a decade or more).

Of course, I already have more webpages than I can reasonably keep up with, though with this I think the chance is there to put something really good together. I know that my friend (and 3FL competitor Brook Gardiner) and I agreed a few years back that he and I could easily put out a magazine that would be superior to most publications out there. I've been doing this for ten years, so I have a pretty good idea of how it all works. In the course of writing this, I think I just talked myself into it. Stay tuned.

Penguins in Portugal!

Speaking of new web endeavors, I put a page up tonight in honor of Haulin' Ass. When I saw the picture from carligula.com of the truck with it on the mud flaps on the back, I knew that it HAD to have its own page on the web. "Dude, we're burning up the road."

I'm listening to the new Franz Ferdinand self-titled CD as I type this, and it's very good. Brit pop-rock rules. Ferdinand's CD is strong beyond just the hit single "Take Me Out".

I mentioned Brook Gardiner before, and he sent me a whole bunch of pictures from his recent trip to Portugal. He got to see some of the Euro 2004 Football (that's soccer for you U.S. readers) tournament, which was held in Portugal. Lucky guy partied it up big-time, took in some world class sports, and even had a chance to visit a zoo to snap the picture of the penguins that I have on here. Though considering that he's been busting his ass working as a lawyer, he deserves to have some fun. Plus Nimesh Patel and Andrew Farnum, two stand-up guys, got to go with him. Wish I could've gone along; from all indications it was a great time.

Next time you buy a smoothie, be sure to ask that they "hold the antifreeze" when you order. I'm only joking... but what happened to a New Jersey man was no laughing matter. His sister-in-law admits to spiking his smoothie with antifreeze, but her lawyer says that she "only intended to hurt her relative severely enough so that he would have to move into her home — and she could then take control of his finances." According to the story, the concoction included these tempting ingredients: pineapple juice, maraschino cherries and antifreeze. Unfortunately, it didn't list the recipe, so you'll just have to mix it to taste. That is, if you're stupid enough to drink antifreeze, which I hope you're not. Yet another nice thing about Tampa, Florida... antifreeze isn't needed all that much down here. So if I see someone sneaking some Prestone into the kitchen, I'll be watching them closely.

And so I don't seem entirely jaded, antifreeze is poisonous -- do not drink it. Sadly, an estimated ten-thousand dogs and cats per year are poisoned by antifreeze. This is a terrible thing.
