These Days Go Flying By

Wednesday
July 24, 2002

"Which one of these standard lines will we use?"
-Dashboard Confessional "Standard Lines"

Oh, these days, they've been flying by. Definitely doesn't feel like a Wednesday night. Or that July is nearly gone. Whoosh, there it goes.

Have to hope that the PS2 will be returned in a timely fashion. The more I heard about the new EA NCAA Football game, the more I definitely want to give it a play. In the meantime, patience will have to be king.

The story of 7-year-old Erica Pratt in Philadelphia is amazing to me. If you haven't heard, she's the little girl who was kidnapped Monday night, and then less than 24 hours later managed to free herself and find help. Stunning. She was an innocent pawn in a battle between two brutal drug gangs in Philly. Investigators are still trying to piece together the story, but they believe that her kidnappers wanted to extort $150,000 from the family. It seems the insurance payout for the girl's dead uncle (who was involved in the feud and subsequently killed) was believed to be 150K, thus that's why that amount of money was demanded. My EP at work said it was the best story she'd ever heard; I wouldn't go that far, but it's the best story I can recall hearing in the news this year at least. With all the tough stories that you have to write about as a news producer, it's refreshing to have one end so improbably well. It's like something out of the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew, only times 100 and with a modern dark drug war theme thrown in with it. Now I just hope they find the two guys responsible for the kidnapping.

Need to give Aaron Thompson a call here in a minute. His basketball schedule might not let him make it down here in time for the D-Rays/Yankees game on Friday. Might be time to enact a Plan B here....

Idea: "Superstar" by The Carpenters needs to be remixed into a dance/techno song. For some reason, I think that would be really good. If I had the means to remix it, I might see if I could give it a try (though I'm no self-proclaimed Mix Master)...
