There's nothing quite like being able to watch Jimmy Kimmel Live, when I want, and easily skip through the commercials. DVR is such a wonderful thing. I know I've rambled about this at great length, but now I see why people love TiVo so much (and DVR, for that matter, which lets you record multiple programs at once). Imagine the household disputes that this will help alleviate... Good times, for sure.
Of course, this sort of technology undoubtedly makes advertisers cringe. But that's too bad for them. They'll deal with it. No one is captive to their television (well, at least most people aren't... I'd like to think.)
The way that some legislators who voted for the horrid "Patriot Act" in 2001 are now backpeddling from their support of that legislation is comical to me. When Washington sees a chance to seize power from the people, especially in a time of crisis (and when emotions are running high), the legislative process goes from turtle slow to lightning fast. An actual quote on WTSP.com reads: "Some legislators didn't even realize the full effects of what they were signing." The hell they didn't. And if by some chance that is true... what does that say about the quality of those individuals and the attention (or lack thereof) that they give to their job?
This has been a most interesting week for radio ratings, today included. I'm still waiting to hear on the details from some places, but so far so good. One market I've been working on for awhile played out very, very well for how we'd hoped it would...
