"Dreaming of girls from far away points
And better things like winter flings
And longing after spring has sprung
And they fly north when winter's done
And we get burned in summer's sun..."
-Dashboard Confessional "Snowbirds And Townies"
Happy New Year everyone! Hope the turn to 2003 was a fun one for you all.
The party last night in Daytona Beach was a blast. I did quite a bit more driving than I expected though. See, the original plan was to meet up with Adam and Amanda in Orlando, then ride with them to Daytona Beach.
Unfortunately, I left my ticket for the party behind at the apartment. For some reason I thought they had it; in actuality they brought it down when they came down for the George Carlin comedy show. It suddenly hit me in Lakeland; that meant 30 miles back down I-4 to Tampa to get the ticket, and another 30 just to double-back. Bad times. Angry times. But, it's better than not realizing it until we reached the hotel.
Luckily, for the 516th time my cell phone helped me out considerably. I touched base with Adam and Amanda, and we made plans to meet up. They were already going to be on the road, so I ended up driving separately. Ugh.
But it was worth it. We stayed at the Plaza Resort & Spa, a nice 10 story hotel right on the beach. In what was probably a good idea, the hotel locked up all the balcony doors, so no one could get out on the balcony. They co-promoted an event with a club called "600 North" billed as "Florida's Largest New Years Party". They had some big-name DJ's spinning all night, from Icey to Sharaz to Baby Anne (this just in: cute girl DJs rule) to Jimmy Joslin (who had the room next to ours). The whole hotel was packed with people there for the party. An ingenious moneymaking idea, for sure.
I'm used to staying up all night, so it was no problem for me. Seeing some of the others try it was funny. There were a whole host of beautiful women there. Did I mention how much I love living in Florida? In a related note, many of the women were apparently inspired by the "bra as a top" Seinfeld episode in choosing their outfits. This is the sort of thing they need in those "FLA USA" Florida tourism commercials.
Traffic on the drive home sucked today. I hit Orlando right as the Auburn/Penn State game in the Citrus Bowl finished up, so I was surrounded by Auburn and Penn State fans (the AU fans were considerably more fired up following the win, with pom-pom's shaking out of car windows and Auburn tiger tails on the backs of cars, etc.) But it made an already crowded roadway even more full.
Time to get ready for work now... I need to talk with my friends who went to Las Vegas and see how their New Year's went. I could only imagine the craziness there...
