XXXVIII

Breaking news: I bought a new car! I went to CarMax in Clearwater tonight to check out a 2000 Honda Accord coupe that I found on the internet (I wasn't planning on it today, but I quickly discovered how hard they are to find). Low mileage (27,500), nice control, strong motor, and it's even red! Plus no peeling paint (which means no more driving in embarrassment). This becomes my fourth car, joining 1. My '88 Chrysler LeBaron convertable ("The Love Machine") [1993-1994]; 2. My '93 Ford Taurus ("Barry"); [1994-1998] and 3. My '97 Dodge Neon ("The Neon") [1998-2004] on the list.

Only problem, I left my Camden parking pass behind in the Neon (along with half of my detachable connecting keyring with my Neon's key). That means I get to drive down to Clearwater tomorrow to pick that up.

(Expect to hear me ramble on about my car on here for awhile. As spur of the moment as this move was, it's one I've been plotting for months.)

Moving on, my brother Matt had some good points to add on Super Bowl XXXVIII:

Hey thought I'd drop you a quick note or two about yesterday's column: First, the Budweiser commercial with the "Guy" who drove to return the chick's lipstick was indeed Dale Earnhardt, Jr., which was the main point of the joke. I think it's funny you missed that, then immediately mentioned Earnhardt in the Nextel commercial.

I caught most of the Bill Simmons chat on Friday, and posted two questions to him: One asking him if he knew there actually is a Swank Magazine (based on the Swankest comment in a column), this question was asked by someone else also and he answered it. Also, I asked him if Brady comes through with the MVP hardware on Sunday, then does that put him in the same league as Montana, based on their similarities of being cool under pressure, with nothing particularly outstanding in their play other than their ridiculous postseason win percentage. I asked him that in hopes he might take the bait and talk about it before the Super Bowl, possibly jinxing the Pats. However, Simmons was too smart for that. Didn't work. Now, he's talking about it (so was the ESPN crew before the game), so I guess I was not alone in that observation.

Also, you might want to check out http://www.superbowl-ads.com. You can catch the "tomorrow" NFL Network ad there.

Good point on that being Dale Jr. in the Bud lipstick commercial -- perhaps I was temporarily confused and thought it was Jeff Jarrett. Now that ad makes alot more sense.

Too bad I missed that Simmons chat, I would've tried to trick him into comparing the 2003 Patriots to a movie (since he loves to talk movies) and then later try to twist it into a jinx. Not that I wish Bill any ill will, but I really didn't want the Patriots to win. Even though their win helped my prediction on here (Pats victory, with the points going over) to come true.

I looked at the Super Bowl ads page, but didn't see the "Tomorrow" NFL Network ad. Hmmm.

As predicted, on Monday (yesterday) I set a personal record with more than 19,500 hits combined between all of my websites. This matches the trend from last year (in the pre DraftKing.com days when I had a mock draft on this page) where the hits spiked up tremendously right after the Super Bowl (and rose steadily all the way up to the 2004 Draft). A recent check of several important phrases on Google related to 2004 NFL Mock Drafts had DraftKing.com ranked high. I'm hoping to surpass the 20,000 hits in a day mark this week...
