The Knight Parade Is At Night

Saturday
February 15, 2003

"When in Rome, eat your own piss."
-Scott Massey, making perhaps the world's most unusual analogy about Fenway Park's "Green Monster", on the phone tonight from Boston

It's 11:30 PM. I'm taking a quick break from Ybor. I have about 10,000 thoughts revolving through my head. And there's nary time to write about most of them, lest I miss out on the craziness that is the Gasparilla Knight Parade aftermath.

The Knight Parade is one of those things where I've seen it written as the "Gasparilla Knight Parade" and the "Gasparilla Night Parade". See, it has a double meaning, with the knights in the parade and the parade taking place at night.

With this event, you really need to pace yourself. Which I didn't do a very good job of this year. It's 11:35 now and I feel like tapping out as if I'm locked in the Tazmission or something. And I didn't even work out today. Whiskey will do that to you. So will Jager.

I think Riley is down at the pizza shop right now, though our conversation on the phone went something like this:

**Noise in the background**
Lou: Hello?
**Noise in the background**
Lou: Helllll-ooo? (about to hang up)
Riley: Hey. (barely audible)
Lou: Riley -- where are you?
**Noise in the background**
Riley: Hey dude, I'm at the pizza shop. It's loud in here; I can't hear you. (my best guess at what he said)
Lou: Okay, I'll be down there in a little bit.

You get the idea. And this was a good case scenario, where he actually heard my phone ringing and the cell was available. In the peak of the parade rush, I couldn't get through.

There's so much to tell, and I intend to do it tomorrow. But for now, I'm going to do my best to hulk up and go back into the fray...
