Striking For Gold

Friday
February 14, 2003

Wow, what a wonderful week this has been. Working in a non-hostile environment. Sleeping at night. Having time to workout, time to do my job at a reasonable pace, time to BREATHE.

Yes, this is nice.

Of course, time is still a factor in some things. Like trying to write this in-between a workout and meeting up with Riley & Todd down at Market on 7th.

The movie Old School opens next week, starring Will Ferrell. He may be my most disliked actor, save for maybe Bob Saget. He does a great impression of George W. Bush -- no argument there. But as I've mentioned before, he single-handedly managed to ruin every scene he was in in both The Ladies Man and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. Now maybe this will be different, but I'm not expecting much. At all.

Here's a few tidbits from the past week... It's funny to call a radio station in Alaska and hear "Good morning" on the other end of the line -- when it's 2:28 PM EST... There was some real unintentional comedy at Taco Bell on Tuesday. This guy in a hard hat was asking the lady at the counter if the Monterey chicken quesadilla was spicy. The woman told him "Well I think it's not that spicy, but I like spicy food..." going on and on. The guy gave a not-too-bright-upstairs look and said "Uhhh if it's spicy then I don't want it." And this guy is building the bridge I'll drive on next month? Ay yi yi... Speaking of food, I went to Subway on Wednesday (this fast food tour is creating some interesting moments). Anyway, I could've sworn I was in line to get on The Price Is Right. All these people in matching clothes. Two guys in camaflouge, presumably from MacDill Air Force Base. A man and a woman with the alphabet written in braille on the back (though I'm not quite sure how effective that would be, unless they had rhinestones on the braille spots or something). The Subway crew in Subway outfits. Two guys in matching construction company shirts. Am I ordering food here, or am I going to play Lucky Seven at the cash register?... Fox inexplicably re-ran the Joe Millionaire "flashback" episode on Thursday. So in case you missed your first opportunity to waste an hour of your life, they gave you a second chance... My friend Scott Massey and I expanded on the "Drunk Guy Pissing Part 5" idea with "Shits Gone Wild". I'm not even sure how that conversation came about, or why I'm even writing about it on here... Speaking of Scott, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that I beat him in 3 of out 5 games of NBA Live 2003 the other night. I won the decisive game five in OT when Jason Terry missed a shot for Scott with just seconds to go. I can't say enough good things about that game. Great control, good fun factor, realistic gameplay. All we need is Ron Artest punching a cameraman or Shawn Kemp going back into rehab again to have it all... If you want a cheap laugh, refer to a buzzerbeater as a "butterbeater".

Well time is short and the beer is cold down at Market on 7th. Oh, and tomorrow is the Gasparilla night parade. What a weekend ahead. Should be nice...
