I was remiss in my last commentary to leave out how difficult it was for me to get roundtrip air travel from Tampa to Nashville for Christmas weekend. My normal carrier of choice, as I've mentioned before, is Southwest Airlines. No, they're not paying me to say that. Some people swear by Jet Blue, and I'll fly with them next month for the first time, but my point is that Southwest is my usual top choice. Plus, they fly direct from Tampa to Nashville, which I don't believe any other airline does.
Unfortunately, because I procrastinated on buying my ticket (in part because of needing to know some things for sure with my schedule), I was unable to get anything for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of next week (after Christmas.) Every flight for every day was sold out. It was quite astonishing.
Luckily, Expedia was able to point out that I could get home via US Airways, albeit with a layover in Charlotte. For the Charlotte-Nashville leg on Friday, I literally landed the last seat on the plane. Yo! But I made it work, and that's the important thing.
I'm moving at the end of the month, so I'll be saying goodbye to Ybor City and moving into an apartment complex that's actually across the bay in St. Petersburg. Despite the location, it'll actually be a quicker commute to work. Go figure. The irony is that I'll be very close to Channel 10, and I would've rented in that area when I first moved here in April 2001 had it not been for the opportunity in Ybor.
The new place isn't quite as nice in comparison to here, but remember that the Camden Ybor apartments were brand new when I moved in here. But it will have more room, though I plan on having a roommate, as my friend Gary is moving back to Florida from Indiana. I haven't had a roommate in a long time, but it should be a good setup. With two bedrooms, we'll both have our own space. I anticipate that I'll be doing a great deal of travel with the Bubba show next year, so having a roommate at this particular point makes sense.
One nice thing is that my new apartment complex has a tennis court. You have no idea how excited I am about that. The one major downer to my location here in Ybor is that there aren't any tennis courts nearby. My game has to be really rusty at this point, but I'll enjoy getting back in form. Maybe I can regain the form that won me the 1997 University of Evansville C-League intramural tennis championship.
The Indianapolis Colts had their 13-0 unbeaten season hit a snag today, as they lost to the San Diego Chargers. There's no use in complaining; the Chargers just outplayed the Colts. San Diego is getting some major production out of its two first round draft picks from this past draft, Shawne Merriman and Luis Castillo. With Quentin Jammer finally turning into the shutdown corner that people expected him to be when he came out of Texas, San Diego is looking more and more dangerous. Though, just getting in the playoffs for the Chargers will be tough, as they need to win out in their tough stretch run in the AFC.
