Breathing The Column

According to the Associated Press, Japan's top telecommunications company is adding smell to the sights and sounds of the Internet. A broadband connection controls a machine that has 36 scents, blends of natural oils, such as eucalyptus, sandalwood and basil.
Now I don't know if that will ever take off (the early price is a hefty $10,000 per unit), but imagine the possibilities. Restaurants in particular could have some fun with it, especially if they had some "internet only" specials. Draw people to the site, entice them with the smell of fresh bread or whatever... and voila.

Then again, I could see someone creating a "Fellas At The Bog" site which produces the smells of stink. So I suppose it could work both ways.
Last night I had an awesome meal at the Kobe Steakhouse on North Dale Mabry in Tampa. I went to a Kobe (not Bryant) Steakhouse in Nashville when I was in grade school, and similar to that experience the chef cooked the food right in front of us. We had a really cool guy as our chef last night, and he did all sorts of fun tricks (flipping cooking instruments in the air, making a "volcano" out of a sliced onion, etc.) And the food was excellent, which was great. I went with a bunch of people from work and had a great time.
I've been listening to the two most recent Eminem CDs (The Eminem Show and Encore) lately. I have to think that "Ass Like That" (song #9 on Encore) will be a single at some point. The same person that I acquired those CDs from also supplied me with a "bonus" three song extra disc that for whatever reason didn't make it onto Encore. And it's too bad, as all three songs are strong and deserved, in my opinion, to be on the CD. But I don't think that Eminem needs my advice to sell CDs.
With Jon Gardiner losing his final five games, his Juggernaut team missed the playoffs. Jon had been in there every year since our lifetime league format began in 1999, and he and I had been the only two to make it every year... until now. I've been most fortunate to have Peyton Manning in a career season this year (along with his favorite receiver, Marvin Harrison), as my WR corps is riddled with injuries. Because I have a first round bye as a #2 seed, I'll get to enjoy football this weekend without any direct fantasy football implications, which is a strange thing when you've become used to it.
