Speed Trap

Monday
December 8, 2003

Today proved to be quite the long day. With the Christmas shopping rush in full stride, people took to the internet for shopping over the weekend on BubbaArmy.com. It took until nearly 8:30 PM, but I got every order made through 6 PM today shipped out today. Hopefully all will be happy for our customers as Christmas day draws near.

USC WR Mike Williams
USC WR Mike Williams is a native of Tampa, FL.

Much like college football did away with ties in the mid 1990s (thank god), the time has come to do away with the bowl games. All of them. Yes, I know that there's a ton of tradition and history involved, the Rose Bowl parade, all of that rigmarole. I also know that, if USC beats Michigan, we're likely going to have yet another split national championship. What a joke and an embarrassment to the greatest sport in the world (in my opinion).

Granted, the people in power will never let this happen. No way. The major conference power brokers will not allow the NCAA to gain control, even though the megamoney that could be made is being missed out on. It's such a shame... Imagine a 16-team playoff, with Kansas State and Florida in there with the likes of LSU and Michigan and USC. Could you imagine the classics we could have? I could.

What's really pathetic about it all is that, had Notre Dame beaten Syracuse, USC would've gotten in over LSU thanks to strength of schedule (since USC beat Notre Dame earlier this year). It came down to a game with two teams with non-winning records to determine who'd get in between LSU and USC. Explain that to me. Some simple-minded sports talk "gurus" used this as an irrational justification as to why the BCS is a good thing. I say: blow up the system and give us playoffs. Make a carbon copy of what I-AA does. And do it now. Who's with me on this?!?
