Titans 2003
Tuesday
December 30, 2003
It's late as I write this, but I need to add some new material on here. 2003 is almost gone. Just like that, poof, another 365 have come and gone. But isn't that how the passing of time goes, speeding up as one gets older, as if the things you learn along the way are supposed to make handling that any easier. Hell, I had months in my early grade school years that seemed to last longer than this whole year has felt.
| | | Richard and Andy Karg are coming into their own as country music singer/songwriters in Nashville. |
You never know in the music industry, but my gut tells me that by this time next year, Richard and Andy Karg (collectively known as the "Karg Boys") will be signed to a major country music label. Hearing them perform live in Brentwood on Saturday night was a great treat that was yet another wonderful part of a tremendously enjoyable trip back home to Nashville. They are continuing to develop their skills both on the songwriting and performing sides, and the sky is the limit for them. Country music could use some new young stars, and they could be just the guys to fit the bill. Or maybe they'll wait a little longer until they feel they're really ready... but whatever the case, when they take their shot at the big time, I think they have just as good a shot as anyone at making it.
| | | Michelle (with "the twins"), Matt and Kalib enjoyed Saturday night at Jonathan's in Brentwood, Tennessee. |
The Kargs played at a cool bar in Brentwood known as Jonathan's. I'd never been there before this past weekend, or let alone even heard of the place. But, it turned out to be a really fun place. Good atmosphere, two-for-one draft beers (that's some sweet action), and live music. The mix of people was nice, with a young Brentwoodish crowd that was friendly and not snobby. Good times.
In a really bizarre moment, I was recognized by a girl named Amanda Helton. Initially she thought she knew me from Franklin High School (nope), but soon we put the puzzle together -- she played soccer at Evansville and graduated in 1997. I broadcast Lady Aces soccer during my time at UE. Voila. Small world. What's more, it also turns out that her dad writes for
Radio & Records, which is one of the leading publications in the radio industry. Go figure. I planned on talking with her more later in the evening, but I got distracted in conversations with my friends and by the time I made it back over to her table she and her crew were gone.
| | | Beer before noon + delicious chicken + perfect weather = tailgating greatness. |
In a last second change of plans, my friend Ronnie Aquino ended up going to the Titans game in place of my Dad, who was home sick (and he's hardly ever sick). We ended up leaving a bit later than we'd planned as a result, but we still managed to hit the PrimeTrust Bank tailgate tent. It's by invitation only, so don't try crashing it! Looking at that pic of my bro and I, it reminds me of that line from Fight Club: "Now we had corporate sponsorship." Hell yeah. A little Crunch & Munch, some coldbeer, some delicious chicken, yum. Good times.
As it was, the Titans won (beating, ironically enough, the Tampa Bay Bucs). As it turned out, the win proved rather meaningless, as the Colts beat the Texans on a last second field goal to win the AFC South. The Titans will hit the road on a short week, playing at Baltimore in what should be an intriguing battle. I suppose I'll wear my Steve McNair jersey on Saturday and then my Peyton Manning jersey on Sunday (when Indianapolis hosts Denver).
