It's been a busy week at work. Fast, but busy. Let's hope the next several follow suit. Right now I'm the Kansas City Royals in September.
Let's jump back to this past weekend. Nashville was a great time. It was wonderful to see my family, especially cousins and aunts and uncles I hadn't seen in a long time. It was very nice. My mom cooked like a champ, fixing a delicious Thanksgiving dinner, then this awesome ham, potato and cheese dish on Friday night, and then enough chili and soup to feed three dozen people at the big family gathering on Saturday. I know how time consuming that can be, especially now that I'm back to cooking for myself again. Sandwiches anyone?
Some random thoughts from the trip: Dad was nice enough to let me borrow his truck on Saturday night. Unfortunately the cell phone in there was almost completely dead -- it died as I tried to call Matt. Luckily I found a pay phone, and as I dodged panhandlers I called home and made a call by proxy for Matt and Slick to meet up with me at Buffalo Billiards. Meanwhile mom's cell phone was fully charged on the kitchen counter at home. So it goes... Mary Beth had her 14th birthday on Sunday. So happy birthday to her. Hard to believe she's 14, but time flies... Speaking of Mary Beth, she was set to throw out some old Pokemon cards. But I rescued them and put them up for bid on eBay. At last check they're up to $5.00. Is it worth the hassle? Maybe not, but I figure that's $5 otherwise lost... Slick's talking points at Easy's in Nashville late on Saturday night were amusing. I can't remember them all to list here (and perhaps that's a good thing). But I know that he, Matt and I came up with the idea of a bar/club called "Unsavory's". Heh heh..... The cold weather in Nashville was no joke. I think I've lived in Florida long enough for my blood to thin. I was freezing my nuts off last weekend. And I had on a ski jacket. Of course, the shaved head with no hat might not've been the smartest move in hindsight (especially with no alcohol to keep me warm Saturday night)... It was interesting talking with my cousin April about her business idea and my music distribution idea..... Nashville radio isn't half bad these days. 103 WKDF is a country station I actually like. 102.5 The Party is an alright CHR, but would be well served to emulate the dance/rhythmic CHR that 93-3 FLZ in Tampa plays. 102.9 The Buzz is still rockin', and 101.1 The Beat is great (their "voice guy" for liners and such has a crazy yet compelling sound, hard to explain)..... The Titans were a big topic of conversation, and that was before their big win in New York over the Giants. I have mixed emotions about this weekend's game with the Colts at the Coliseum..... It was interesting talking with Grandma Pickney (my dad's mom) about Alsace-Larraine. I knew that my dad's dad was from that region, but I didn't know that her parents were, too. I also found out a great deal about the history of the Pickney name in America. Pickney is easier to pronounce than Pequigney, I must say..... One of the funniest lines around is to ask someone if they "have their tickets", then when they ask "what tickets" get up in their face and flex your bicep and say "your tickets to the gun show!!!"..... It was interesting to people-watch at the airport T.J. Cinnamon in Nashville and see people scurrying to grab an early Sunday morning breakfast, hurrying to make flights, etc. It was a way to pass the time (plus it let me take notes for things to write on here, knowing that I might be too busy to write a commentary before the end of the work week).
Carli hooked me up with two passes to the "Next Big Thing 2" show in Clearwater on Sunday. Everclear in concert=good times.
Time to go meet up with Riley & Todd at the pizza shop...
