Don't Be Cruel
Thursday
August 16, 2007
It was 30 years ago today that Elvis Presley died. The idea that 50,000 people will visit Graceland to commemorate the date is a testament to the bizarre nature of human hero worship. But, for me, this date means that the shadow of 30 has almost crossed my path; the lid is about to be shut on me as a twenty-something.
Elvis died eight days before I was born. That means one week from Friday I'll be turning 30. In the grand scheme of things, it's entirely inconsequential, just another day in the life. But, from the standpoint of time passing, this will mark the end of my 20s. And, as I get older, time keeps moving faster and faster... or at least my perception of it does.
If you haven't seen it yet, you owe it to yourself to watch the new CBS game show Power of Ten. It's compelling television, and Drew Carey is great as a host. I'm disappointed to report that ABC's Set for Life is terrible. Jimmy Kimmel is a great host, but the premise is weak and the post-production editing renders the show almost unwatchable. For that one I say: "No Bingo!"
