Lou Pickney's Online Commentary

Urban Midair Legend

Monday
August 2, 2004

My friend Dennis Goodman sent me an e-mail in regards to the "Are our skies safe?" story mentioned in this commentary saying that there may not be any validity to the story. According to this article from snopes.com, the incident did take place as described, but the reporter's interpretation was errant as far as any terrorist implications. It makes sense considering the level of paranoia that understandably exists in this post-9/11 world.

Dennis also tells me that The Amazing Race is, in his opinion, the best show on TV. I'll have to watch it again tomorrow night to see if I concur with his assessment. And finally, here's his take on the Cubs (his favorite team) landing Nomar:

"The main thing in the deal is that they did not have to give up Clement which was rumored. So basically they keep their starting five in tact and upgrade at SS while only losing one player off the major league roster. Thank you, come again!!"

Dennis also mentioned that a Cubs/Cardinals NLCS would be fun to see, and I agree. It's been nearly 20 years since either team has been to the World Series... and with the Cubs, I shouldn't have to tell you what all's on the line for them.
