Bubba TV Blitz

Monday
August 16, 2004

Today I've been playing the role of coordinator; with Bubba The Love Sponge in New York City (and Brent Hatley and Tom Bean up there with him), I've been doing my best to coordinate his mini media blitz from this end as best I can. Luckily, my experience from working in TV has helped me to know what to expect (and more importantly, what to do to best help the various people that I've been interacting with to best prepare for their segments). He'll be on MSNBC (Deborah Norville Tonight) at 9 PM Eastern, then on ESPN2 (Cold Pizza) somewhere between 7-9 AM Eastern (replaying 9-11 AM Eastern) and then on Inside Edition airing at a yet-to-be-determined date.

I've been listening to Howard Stern a great deal on WBZZ here in Tampa. His show is entertaining, though it's interesting to hear just how inferior their bit guy is compared with Manson (who did the bits/songs/parodies on BTLS that were pure genius). It's not even close. Plus it seems like Stern still runs bits off of carts, as today their crew sounded horribly disorganized trying to find old material. I know they do a ton more interviews than we did with the BTLS show, but still a catalog system via computer would help them a great deal. Though it won't make their bits any better. I'm not complaining though -- Stern trumped the other choices for morning talk in this market...

We got very lucky here in the Tampa Bay area with Hurricane Charley. Had it followed its original predicted track, Pinellas County or South Tampa would've taken a hit like Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte did. The images out of Punta Gorda were horrifying: homes leveled, airplanes tossed around like toys, etc. As of this writing the death count is at 17, and I fear that the final total could rival that of Hurricane Andrew from 1992 (many people are still "missing" at this point). With the 11th hour turn to the right, people in Charlotte County who weren't expecting the storm took a direct hit. That, coupled with the fact that the county has such a high elderly population, caused a horrible situation for the people there.

The Top 20 list of most searched items on this site is usually a compelling read, and this month it's no different. Note how many appearances there are for Stewie and Family Guy related strings:

Speaking of Family Guy, Fox is running four of show creator Seth McFarlane's favorite episodes in a two hour block on Wednesday night. Hopefully that will prove successful and lead to plenty of exposure for the newly created episodes. That show is freaking brilliant.

With my trip to Nashville postponed until this weekend, I passed the time this past weekend by giving Madden 2005 a try. It's a fun game, for sure. The gameplay in that is superior to NCAA Football 2005, in my opinion. However, there is more room for "cheesers" online -- i.e. people who use bullshit tactics to win. I played this one chump who used only two plays: Randy Moss out of the slot (where I couldn't double cover him) and Michael Bennett on a throw in the backfield. Thanks to the long play clock, he kept rearranging his play until he got one of the two scenarios to work. I managed to keep it close (thanks to my skills playing as the Titans), but his BS proved to be too much. However, I am proud of the 10 point four quarter comeback I made against another opponent. Oh, and by the way, I beat Scott Massey with the Packers at the Falcons. Heh heh heh...
