The 2003 3FL Draft is now in the books, and I'm most pleased with how my team came out. Donald Driver, who I had ranked #2 overall (behind Clinton Portis) among the available players in the draft, fell to me all the way down at #8. I'll enjoy watching Favre-to-Driver with the Packers this season (and hopefully in several seasons to come). Driver isn't expected to play in tonight's Packers pre-season opener, but that's okay by me. Let him rest up and get healthy for the start of the season.

There's nothing like the NFL pre-season to show just how strongly American sports fans feel about football. I mean, you have games featuring many players who likely won't be on the roster by the time the season begins and where the stars hardly play that are broadcast on prime-time network television. And for every feel-good, against (pronounced agaaaaaainst) all odds type of guy who makes the cut, there are a lot of solid but not good enough performances that mean the end of organized football for some talented athletes.

Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean is on the cover of both Time and Newsweek this week. For you readers who support the Democratic party, what's your take on him? He certainly is cut from the liberal mold, though he is doing a good job of utilizing the resources of the internet and of flying his flag on the one real issue that the Dems stand a chance of winning on: the economy. Don't think though that President George W. Bush didn't learn a thing or two from what happened to his father following the first Gulf War in 1991. No matter who the Democrats put in with their party domination, even Hillary Clinton herself, they will have a tough time overcoming President Bush's fundraising ability, not to mention the power of the incumbency.

Meanwhile, the Democratic contenders are starting to bicker now. Dean seems to be the primary target, with Joseph Lieberman saying that a Dean nomination (without mentioning his name) would ensure a Democrat loss in 2004. "A candidate who was opposed to the war against Saddam, who has called for the repeal of all of the Bush tax cuts, which would result in an increase in taxes on the middle class, I believe will not offer the kind of leadership America needs to meet the challenges that we face today."

This should be a fun next few months as the initial state primaries start to take focus...

I've asked some friends what they thought about the commentaries on here, and the overwhelming response has been that people appreciate the honesty in them. So that's how they'll stay.

I headed to sleep last night after they yanked the starters from the Packers vs. Chiefs pre-season battle in the Hall of Fame game. It turns out that they called off the game due to lightning, which had to create a programming scramble for ABC. Not that they're in sweeps or anything, but normally you don't expect to have an NFL game postponed and consequently called off, pre-season or not...
