Obnoxious Whistler

Monday
April 21, 2003

I'm finally back in the swing of things at work. Between going to Starkville and then getting sick, I must admit to having fallen a little out of the loop. Though, thanks to the wonders of the internet, I never became completely unconnected.

Gene Lasker came in this morning and re-organized Bubba's office. It's great, you can actually see the floor in here now. Shelves can work amazing magic. Speaking of Gene, congrats to him for winning his auto race on Saturday night in Jacksonville. He told me he set a track record with his 142 mph time. Well done!

I'm still trying to figure out what I need to do to turn those Game 7 Lightning/Caps tickets into Game 3 Lightning/Devils tickets. Perhaps I need to just break down and call Ticketmaster.

It's worth mentioning that Mad TV on Fox this past Saturday had a hilarious parody of the Jenny Jones show. They had a skit where they had a mom who was angry at her "lazy child who slept all the time". They they brought out her child, who looked to be one year old. Hilarious stuff. Then they had them "boot camp" her child, only for the Marines to start doing baby-talk to the child. It might not translate well in the description, but it had me laughing hard (especially the spot-on accurate mocking of Jenny Jones' manneurisms).

Speaking of Jenny Jones, did you know that she was a contestant on the game show Press Your Luck back in the 1980's? Just thought I'd mention that.

It's looking like I'm going to go to the Major League Wrestling show scheduled for Orlando next month. It has some of the old crew from ECW (including Joey Styles as announcer); it's not quite up to that old level, but it is a nice change from the horribly stale WWE programming. Perhaps once they start running monthly shows (like how ECW used to do it in the pre-TNN days) instead of quarterly shows they'll be able to build some momentum. Of course, how much talent-sharing MLW and NWA-TNA will be able to take remains to be seen... (with the likes of Jerry Lynn, Amazing Red, etc. working for both promotions).

How about Allen Iverson going for 55 points in last night's 76ers/Hornets game? That's just 8 points shy of Michael Jordan's playoff record 63 (which has stood for 17 years). If the Magic upset the Pistons and face the 76ers, that could be a very interesting series... (of course, Orlando faces a tough road against the #1 seeded Pistons).

In politics, it seems that people are finally figuring out just how invasive the so-called "Patriot Act" is to their privacy. A number of towns and cities are passing resolutions condemning the act, which gave the federal government sweeping spying powers the month after the September 11th attack on America.

Incidentally, the Patriot Act is proof that when lawmakers want to get something done quickly, they can. That bill was pushed through while the United States was still distracted by the attacks...
