Flying Out

Friday
April 26, 2002

My flight to Huntington leaves in less than two and a half hours. Time to finish packing and head to the airport. Back in the day I might have cut it a little closer, but anymore you want to give yourself PLENTY of time. Dammit, I just realized that I forgot to borrow a book from the bookshelf at work. I borrowed Sphere by Michael Creighton on the Mississippi trip. Maybe I'll buy a book at the airport.

I trumped the Associated Press this morning. Around 3 AM Eastern, word came down about the death of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes from the band TLC. Thanks to my amazing internet skills, I was able to track down that she was born in May 1971, which made her 30 years old. However, the Associated Press kept insisting that she was 31. We even had a debate about it in the newsroom, but I held firm. Later CNN backed me up, and then eventually the AP clued in and issued a correction saying that she was 30. I wasn't allowed to put in the script about her that she was arrested for burning down former NFL receiver Andre Rison's house, even though that's what she's probably most well known for (beyond the success of TLC as a group). Probably for the best though, no sense offending the audience.

Did any of you see last night's Blues/Blackhawks game? Chicago hadn't scored in awhile (as in several games), and then boom they exploded for 3 goals real fast. It was remarkable. 3-1 Blackhawks lead. From there I was getting ready for work and what not, and right before I left I was shocked to see it was 4-3 St. Louis!?! And then the Blues netted another one to make it 5-3. Crazy. With the Predators out (okay, they were never in), I'm pulling for St. Louis.

Well it's time to wrap this up. See you all on the flip side of WV.
