"People hold on to jobs for too long, or lovers, or dreams, or even memories.. and they don't realize they should cut the cord until it's too late."
-Bill Simmons, in his April 23, 2002 ESPN Page 2 column

This Friday, I'll be making a return to Huntington, West Virginia for the first time since I moved from there to Tampa in early April 2001. It should be a fun time. It will be very interesting to see how things have changed there in the year+ since I moved. As I was telling my friend Velvet in an e-mail this morning, in some ways it feels like a long, long time since I left, and in other ways it feels like just yesterday.

But things change, and people change. There's a great part in the movie 12 Monkeys where James Cole talks about how a film can seem different every time you see it, but it hasn't changed -- you've changed. Or the situation or setting you're seeing it in has changed. It's inevitable -- just part of life.

So, it will be intriguing to see how Huntington has changed for me and how I've changed to Huntington. Some of my old crew is gone now, but that was true before I left.

At work this morning we had a very good newscast. We covered breaking news, the supervisor was happy, and on top of that I had my one-year review today (perfect timing for that). It's amazing how well things can work when we're at full staff. Meanwhile, I hope to hear soon about the 6 PM producer position. I'd really like to escape the work all night, sleep all day setup. That would be nice.

Meanwhile, the California trip is about a month and a half away. That will be quite an adventure. I'm looking forward to it, for sure...
